Low Volume Stars

I finished this quilt this weekend. Made mostly of Tasha Noel fabrics with a few Camille Roskelley fabrics thrown in, too. I love it!

Aqua Quilt

 www.sew-handmade.blogspot.com

This quilt is all 4.5" half-square triangles made from various Bonnie & Camille aqua fabrics. It feels like such a happy quilt. I wish I could have taken it to the coast for photos... isn't it just beachy?!

The backing is one of my favorite vintage sheet finds, ever! It's such a pretty print and the colors look just perfect with the aquas on the front.

Low Volume & Pink Triangles

I made this sweet quilt for my cousin’s new baby and I love her and this quilt so much! I got to meet her over the summer when we had a family party and I held her almost the whole time and didn’t want to share her with anybody! I looooooove newborns so much and she was extra sweet and cuddly.

The quilt is made from a variety of 5 inch low volume prints and different shades of 2.5 inch pink solids for the little triangles. I love that it becomes a very soft and soothing I-spy quilt.
The backing is a very soft and pretty pink floral vintage sheet.

I was very happy I finished the quilt in time to take it camping with us before giving it away. We stay in the forest near Santa Cruz, CA every summer and it’s the perfect place to take quilt photos.

And my sweet cousin has been sending me photos every month as baby grows and uses her quilt. 🥰

Catching Up...

I didn’t really intend to stop blogging, but looking back, it’s been 4 months!

A lot has been going on. Lots of medical stuff, which you can read about here: https://www.youcaring.com/jodie-bissig-436264  As much as I don’t want to admit it, MS has really slowed me down. I’m trying to keep up with my art projects, because it makes me feel like me.

We spent few weekends in the foothills during Spring at my husband’s family’s cabin near Mariposa.

It was a very good year for wildflowers (and my favorite barn in the background, it was the star of my first pastel painting).

Lots of pretty sunsets set against the oak trees.

I worked on some knitting by the creek. I was trying to make a hat. First attempt was a bust, but second try worked out well!

I have a quilt that is done, just waiting for binding (hopefully this week).

And... I took a watercolor painting class and came home with a pretty picture.

Starting the Snapshots Quilt

I finally had a chance to start the darling Snapshots Quilt! I have been eyeing these blocks for a few months and I love them. And I LOVE that the cost of the pattern is a donation to St. Jude's Children Hospital - such a wonderful organization.

I started with the hot air balloon block. I have loved hot air balloons since I was a little girl. This pattern warmed my heart and made my week, which is saying a lot because it's been an awful couple of days for me, healthwise. Sewing this block was exactly what I needed.
Next I made the camera block, which is actually intended for the back of the quilt. But, since I am also a photographer, this block will definitely be included in the front. LOVE this little camera!
My third block is the sewing machine block. Obviously this one speaks to me as well.
Here's my three together. I love that my blocks are pretty different from the others I've seen (although I love the red/teal/green color combinations, too). I cannot wait to make more of these blocks and see the quilt come together.

Swoon Blocks (In Progress)

I recently started Camille Roskelley's Swoon Quilt. I loooove these blocks. I finished block #4 today... two more to go!

Here's block #1... two of my most favorite fabrics ever!
Block #2...

Block #3, which I'm not terribly sure about. I don't love the way this blue looks with the periwinkle in block #1 and I'm bummed that the green doesn't contrast very well with the white. This may be pulled out to use with a future project - not sure it will get to stay in this quilt.  : (

And block #4 which I LOVE! I love this purple fabric so much and it's such a perfect mix with turquoise.
I shared this one on instagram - I can't believe how well those shapes lined up (in the purple). Bet I couldn't do that again if I tried! ; )

And my four (so far) blocks together. I really really really can't wait to see them all together. (Spoiler alert: more turquoise coming up!).
More soon (I hope I hope!).

What's Cookin'

Considering I don't cook, I probably shouldn't use that phrase?

Anyway.......... I'm working on a vintage fabric quilt with all of these beautiful watercolor-y floral prints. This one will be a baby quilt, but I am already cutting pieces to make a throw-sized quilt to keep. These fabrics just make me happy and they are so soft and comfy, it's impossible to resist.

I've got a lot of other quilts complete and photographed, but I don't want to spoil the surprises for the recipients, so I am waiting to post the pictures. Coming soon........

Blue & Green Circles

Next up? A blue and green circle quilt, inspired by the tutorial at Make it... a Wonderful Life.

Instead of using a CD as a template, I invested in a Circle Rotary Cutter. It's sooooo wonderful. And since I was able to buy it using a 50% off coupon at Joann's, I am extra delighted.

Here's part of the stack of fabrics. They'll all be sewn on 6" white squares.

This one is going to be a throw blanket for our home.

Baby Boy

Our baby boy arrived! He weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and is very mellow, very sweet, and a very good sleeper.

... and he seems to like his new quilt.

Black and White Throw

I was able to finish the black and white throw blanket today - just under the wire of baby's arrival. I'm thrilled to have it complete in time for Autumn and some snuggle time on the couch with my two children.

Some details...

The backing is fabric from Ikea.

I quilted in white thread in concentric squares to compliment the pattern of the blocks.

The binding is a plain black, but I used a fancy stitch to add a little interest.

Progress

We've had lots of progress 'round here.

The black-and-white quilt is quilted - I decided to do concentric squares to compliment the Bento Box pattern. It's a little difficult to see in this photo, but I think you get the idea. My husband drove me into town and picked up fabric for the binding today. I'm hoping to get it complete and in the wash tomorrow morning.

As for project baby? I am about 37 1/2 weeks pregnant. I visited the doctor today and was told I am between 3 and 4 cm dilated - so he may be arriving any day now. Hopefully I'll be able to finish this quilt and then welcome our son! Sounds like it may be a busy week...

Opinions, Please...

My daughter took a very long nap today (*thank you to her daddy who took her to the park and let her run off some energy this morning). I was able to finish the quilt top for the black-and-white throw blanket during her afternoon snooze.

I'm still hoping to finish the quilt before the baby arrives. This still may be a very unrealistic goal - I am about 37 weeks pregnant, 2 cm dilated, and having a contraction as I type these words...

I can't decide how to quilt it and hoping someone has an idea to inspire me. I'm not up for stippling this one, but a simple square grid seems a little boring. Any other ideas?

Black and White

Some progress on the new black and white quilt. I have 22 of the blocks finished (need 48). I hope to have the rest complete this weekend. Maybe? I'd love to get this quilt done before the baby comes, although I'm not sure that is a realistic goal. We shall see...

These are many of the same fabrics from the black and white baby quilt. That quilt was actually made from scraps of this quilt, although I got excited making it and got a little out of order. This one is using the Bento Box pattern (see here and here).

Last One

My husband is becoming concerned that I have an addiction. I made *another* quilt for the new baby. It's very small (about 25" square) and made to be used in the car seat and stroller.

I liked the idea of using all black-and-white because newborn's vision is limited to high contrast colors. I remember our daughter gazing at B&W photos we had framed in our bedroom - she was fascinated. Hopefully this baby will like the contrast, too.

The binding and backing is in a lime green.

I added a very simple ric-rac loop to the binding edge to help keep the quilt from falling off the car seat / stroller. We can also use it to clip on toys / pacifiers as he gets a little older.

And, to make sure the size was just right, I borrowed our daughter's teddy bear to put in the car seat. Which reminded me that we used this same teddy bear before she was born to figure out the seat belts in her infant seat! Here we go again!

I am 36 weeks now... at my doctor's appointment last week, I was 1cm dilated and I am feeling like our little guy might make his arrival any day now. I'll keep you posted! He definitely has a lot of quilts to help him feel welcome!
