4th of July Pillow

 

I made a red, white, and blue pillow to go with my USA pillow for 4th of July this year. I think it turned out cute! 

Berry Table Runner and Sweet Land of Liberty Quilt

I finished two little projects this weekend. First up is this wall hanging/baby sized quilt made with a  panel from Lella Boutique. It is approx 36" x 44". 

I also finished this little table runner. It is made using the Berry Basket line by April Rosenthal. I love these prints so much!

It wasn't the plan, but these two look very cute together and I love the patriotic and summery vibes. 

A little of this, a little of that...

It’s been a busy summer! Not busy sewing, but busy none-the-less!

The first picture is actually sewing! I made this pillow for my friend Patti. She helped housesit for us while we were on vacation, which is no easy favor since we live pretty far out in the country. She loves B&W and red, so I made her a little pillow. She’s a truly great friend to me. She always says yes when I ask for help and has even driven me 45 minutes (one way!) to my treatments and waited patiently while I am poked and prodded. Most visits take between 2-3 hours, plus travel time, so this is no small task! She’s also babysat my kids, picked us up from the airport, and countless other favors. She’s a rock star! I wish I had the energy to make her a whole quilt.

Speaking of vacation, while we were away, I took some time to paint with watercolors. Here are a couple of my creations... 

 We camped for a couple of weeks, during which time I had my birthday. We went whale watching out of Santa Cruz. I painted this little whale on a thank you card for my dad (who was able to meet us for the boat ride) and step-mom.

My husband surprised me by extending our camping trip to include the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Sonoma County (my family lives in Santa Rosa). I LOVE hot air balloons and this event is very special since that is where my husband proposed to me a little over fifteen years ago. 

This balloon reminded me of a quilt with it’s cute star in the middle. I definitely have a hot air balloon quilt on my to-do list once I’m feeling a bit better. 

Happy 4th of July!

 We made some red, white, and blue shirts for Independence Day. Blue fabric paint for a handprint and red puffy paint for the stripes. I'm figuring my days of them allowing me to dress them alike are numbered, but they just look so darned cute! These were super easy to make - maybe 5 minutes total? 

 Mia and I also have matching red and blue fingernails today. 

 And she made her flip flops using a $2.50 pair from Old Navy and red, white, and blue scrap fabrics from my sewing room. These happen to also be her favorite colors, so she is a happy little American today, for sure!

Happy birthday, America! And happy celebrating, swimming, BBQing, and fireworks watching!

Red, White, & Blue

 This has been on my list since last July. I really wanted a patriotic wall hanging to decorate our "mantle" (we don't have a mantle, this is a little chicken wire bulletin board I use as an alternate). This table and "mantle" are located in between our kitchen and living room and is the perfect high traffic area to use for holiday displays. And Memorial Day is the perfect opportunity to display a little (or a lot!) of red, white, and blue. 

 The little quilt is made with 2½" squares of red and blue scraps. It's very similar to the pillow that I made for my mother-in-law for Christmas.

Not easy to see, but it is stipple-quilted with blue and red thread. 

The bunting was completed next - they are 4" triangles of red, white, and blue fabric that is included in the quilt. I love how festive it makes the quilt look.

 I'm happy with how these two quick projects came out and even more happy we now have a fun display at home to honor Memorial Day, Independence Day, Election Day, Veteran's Day, and any other day we just want to show our pride in the USA. 

P.S. The chicken wire bulletin board was purchased at Marshalls. The owl was a find at Michaels, and the photo books are from Costco.
