A little birthday gift from mommy...

(I made this using inspiration from a Valentine's heart card I saw somewhere. Unfortunately, it's bookmarked on our laptop, which recently acquired a virus and I can't get to my saved information there. So... if you know the blog I'm talking about, please let me know and I'll post it. Otherwise, I'll update once the bugs are gone and I can get on that computer again).

This is a little surprise for my daughter's birthday tomorrow. She is turning 4 and this little patchwork heart is made out of scraps from last year's birthday quilt and layered on simple scrapbook papers.

I found this beaded heart embellishment for $2 at Michael's Crafts.

I hand wrote a letter to her and tucked it inside the frame (the "adore" stamp was in the $1 bin at Michael's, too). I'm not sure when she'll ever find it - I imagine someday she'll open the frame. I like the unexpectedness of that.

Birthdays make me a little sad, a little sentimental. It just amazes me how fast time flies when you are raising children. I honestly feel like she was just born and yet there's no denying that it's been four years. I feel like I might just blink and open my eyes to find her as an adult sitting before me. I am so thankful for my quilts, my crafts, and the chance to write these kinds of letters to preserve this moment in time. If I can't stop the clock, I'll settle for this as the next best thing.

Happy Birthday little one!

What a beautiful gift. I love the idea of including the letter for her to find whenever she opens the frame...if it were me, though, I might not be able to stand the wait!
