Today I figured out how to sew in free motion. Normally the machine feeds the fabric through so the stitches stay even and consistent (and usually in a straight line). Free motion sewing allows you to curve and change directions and make the stitches into any pattern you like.
Here's my practice free motion fabric - I did a quick appliqué with some other scrap fabrics and then sewed all over it. My stitches started out wobbly and VERY uneven, but towards the end, I started to get the hang of things. I even "wrote" my name. With a little practice, I think I will enjoy the new freedom of free motion.
