Pumpkin Patchwork Quilt

 

My husband grows pumpkins every year and this year I made a pumpkin quilt! This cutie is for sale! 😍

Dining Room Wall Quilt

I used the triangle scraps from my low volume swoon quilt to make this sweet little wall hanging. 

It's made from the cream fabrics from various Bonnie & Camille fabric lines... my favorite. 

We recently became the new home for my husband's grandparent's dining room set. It's come together nicely. The buffet and table are from his grandparents and the clock is from my grandma. I also have my other grandma's sewing machine in this room, so it's quite the connection to our grandparents in here! 

I used this chicken wire board as decor and it "needed" a little wall hanging quilt. My idea is to use this board for holiday decor, but this quilt will be a nice neutral for in between. 

World Map Quilt

Another panel quilt! This is the Northcott Journey Map, quilted with horizontal lines. I'll be hanging this on the wall somewhere... I love the colors.

My Bookshelf Quilt

After being tempted for years, I finally made myself a bookshelf quilt! 

I recently sorted my scrap fabric by color, so I used those bins and made a variety of books. I didn't use a pattern, I just made each book 12 inches tall and just loosely placed them on a design wall until the quilt came together. I intentionally made the books on the edges easy to trim down so I had some flexibility in the width once it was time to piece the quilt together. 

I varied the books - some have a horizontal strip or two, some have vertical "book plates," and some have nothing at all. 

My favorites are the books that have colorful selvedges as their book plates. I've been saving (hoarding?) these for years, so it was fun to finally use them for a project.

I also placed a camera on the bookshelf, because obviously photos have always been a big part of my life. This camera is cut from a cute vintage camera print from Hobby Lobby. 

The backing and binding are both "gradients" by Moda. 

I love how it turned out and I am so excited to hang it on the wall in my sewing room. This is definitely a happy quilt!

Map Quilt

Quilt #85 is complete! This is a small wall hanging quilt using Moda's Metropolis panel. It's a great design and I'm tempted by the charm pack,  jelly roll, and fat quarter bundle. The prints are so cute and would make a great gift for someone who loves to travel. 

This measures about 18 inches square and I plan to hang it somewhere in our home. This Summer, we traveled through 5 states with our kids on our way home from my stem cell transplant. It was our first major road trip. I loved showing our kids how beautiful our country really is.  

The binding is stripes from the Brother Sister Design Studio. I found it at Hobby Lobby.

Tree Quilt

Thanks to the lovely ladies of the Bee Vintage online sewing bee, my tree quilt is complete! And I actually have some blocks leftover, so I will probably be making a second quilt in the future!

 I kept the quilting super simple. 

 The sashing is Kona charcoal and the binding is a fun swirly gray and white print. 

 The back is a super soft pink and white vintage sheet. 

 This was the first quilt that I was able to use my Sew Steady sewing table. Verdict? Feels a little different, but I think once I get used to the change, it will be a great help for quilting bigger and heavier projects. BIG thank you to my mother-in-law for the thoughtful birthday gift - I can't believe it's taken me this long to try it out! I guess that's a sign of a fun and busy Summer?

Red, White, & Blue

 This has been on my list since last July. I really wanted a patriotic wall hanging to decorate our "mantle" (we don't have a mantle, this is a little chicken wire bulletin board I use as an alternate). This table and "mantle" are located in between our kitchen and living room and is the perfect high traffic area to use for holiday displays. And Memorial Day is the perfect opportunity to display a little (or a lot!) of red, white, and blue. 

 The little quilt is made with 2½" squares of red and blue scraps. It's very similar to the pillow that I made for my mother-in-law for Christmas.

Not easy to see, but it is stipple-quilted with blue and red thread. 

The bunting was completed next - they are 4" triangles of red, white, and blue fabric that is included in the quilt. I love how festive it makes the quilt look.

 I'm happy with how these two quick projects came out and even more happy we now have a fun display at home to honor Memorial Day, Independence Day, Election Day, Veteran's Day, and any other day we just want to show our pride in the USA. 

P.S. The chicken wire bulletin board was purchased at Marshalls. The owl was a find at Michaels, and the photo books are from Costco.

Scrappy Rainbow Quilt

On St. Patrick's Day, I made a little rainbow quilt. I loved my little piles of colorful scraps. 

It's about 20 inches square and will be a wall hanging, although I'm not sure where yet. 

Am I the only one who feels like there's zero breeze until I attempt to photograph a quilt? 

The colors of the rainbow are made with small squares (about ¾- 1 ½") and quilted with matching thread in an arch shape. 

Above the rainbow is quilted with big loops (to look like clouds in my mind). 

And below, the quilting mimics the arch of the rainbow and some little hills and landscape shapes. 

The back is rainbow polka dots on white and it turned out to be pretty fun with the colors of the thread I used for the quilting. 

I think the back is almost as fun as the front... 

... almost...   ; ) 

My love of rainbows goes back to when I was a little girl. I love this quilt and I think (?) I am done with rainbows for a little while, after several projects in a row! We will see!  : )

This Weekend's Crafts

Hi y'all! Hope you are having a lovely weekend! I've worked on a few little projects this weekend that I thought I'd share. First, more string blocks... I've received 6 blocks from my friends in the Bee Vintage group and I've made 6 blocks. Half-way there!

I also made this little pennant banner with some of my favorite prints. I wanted something to dress up my plain white window valance in my sewing room. This was a fast little project and I am happy with how it turned out. (The Inspire word art was a gift from my husband a few years ago - purchased from Pier 1). 

I also started a project for Christmas. Christmas? Yes, Christmas. I saw an idea on Pinterest that used a house key as an ornament. I found our first key to the forever house we finished this Summer. This was the first key we were given by the builder. I painted it gold and then covered it in gold glitter nail polish. I have more plans for it, I'll share once it's complete. The lightbulb may or may not actually end up on our tree. It's just a burnt out nightlight bulb that happened to be on the kitchen counter when I started painting the key. 

Can you believe it? 99 days until the end of the year!

Vintage Linens Dresden Plate Quilt

My dresden plate quilt is done! This is made with my favorite vintage linens. It measures 24' x 26" and is meant to be a wall hanging in my beloved sewing room. I'm a little shocked at the length of time it took me to complete this relatively tiny quilt, but I've decided not to dwell on it and to just love it anyway.  : )

The dresden plate is sewn down with a straight-line seam on white fabric. The outside is quilted with free-motion swirls. 

Have I mentioned how much I love these fabrics? 

The center is a fussy-cut flower from one of my favorite prints. 

 Dresden plate blocks are actually quite simple to make, but look simply exquisite when they are complete. There's an easy tutorial here on Sew Mama Sew.

The back is a soft green and blue and white floral. I love how the quilting looks on the back. 

 And I used a simple charcoal gray solid for the border.
